Cuban Art and Culture Tours by the Center for Cuban Studies

The Center for Cuban Studies is a non-profit, tax-exempt educational institution in New York City that was founded in 1972. It is dedicated to providing information about contemporary Cuba and contributing to a normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States. The Center has served as a vital communication link between the U.S. and Cuba and through its publications, organized travel to Cuba, library services, exchange programs and art projects.

From its beginning the Center has stressed the importance of Cuban art and culture, early on collecting posters, photographs, prints, drawings, paintings, ceramics and other examples of the visual arts in Cuba, as well as thousands of slides, catalogs and other information about Cuban artists.

The Center for Cuban Studies is not an OFAC license Travel Service Provider.

Cuban Visual Arts Tour in Havana, Cienfuegos, and Trinidad - May 28th - June 4th, 2011

There will be several lectures on Cuban art and visits to numerous locations such as the Centro Provincial de Artes Visuales, the Fototeca and the Diago Gallery, La Acacia Gallery, Hotel Inglaterra art installations, artists’ studios, Galeria Habana, Instituto Superior de Arte, Jorge Perugorria's and Sandra Dooley's studio and Fuster's wildly artist home in Jaimanitas.

Cuban Architecture & Preservation Tour - June 2 to June 12, 2011

PROVISIONAL ITINERARY: 10 days in Havana, Cienfuegos, Trinidad Cuba

Participants will stay at the Parque Central Hotel in Havana, visit artists in Plaza Vieja, the market at Plaza de Armas and will have time to talk to vendors about how they make and sell their goods.
A visit to La Maqueta, the Model of the City of Havana, will feature a discussion with architect Migeul Coyula and that will be followed by an all-day guided city tour of Havana where participants will see the Colon Cemetery, the National Arts Schools, Vedado and Miramar.

Cuban Art and the Great Museums of Cuba Tour  - June 10 to June 21, 2011

PROVISIONAL ITINERARY: 14 days in Havana, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Camaguey, and departing from Santiago de Cuba

The Great Museums of Cuba tour will show a side of the island nation that is seldom heard about: Cuba's art, history, and culture within museum borders. Participants will visit numerous museums across Cuba and even Old Havana itself which is a "museum" of historic buildings reflecting 400 years of Spanish rule.

Greening the Economy Tour: Eco-tourism & Urban Agriculture in Cuba - To be announced

PROVISIONAL ITINERARY: 8 Days in Havana, Pinar del Rio, Varadero and the Zapata Swamp

During the Special period following the collapse of the Soviet Block in the early 90s, the Cuban government embarked upon a transformative effort to restructure the economy in order to attract tourists and foreign investment. Participants with the "Greening the Economy" tour will see first-hand how the Cuban government succeeded to promote Eco-tourism in Cuba and its impact on the Cuban economy and society.
