Cuba Education Tours
Cuba Education Tours was established in 1997 as a project for peace, friendship
and understanding between Americans and the people of Cuba. In 2000, it expanded its scope to include educational
travel abroad to Cuba for schools and universities. Today the organization helps thousands of Americans go to Cuba
legally on culture, education, history and nature tours.
Note: This is a Canadian tour operator and is not required to hold an OFAC Travel
Service Provider (TSP) license. US travelers joining its programs must do so using the general license categories
of education, research or religion. The operator provides detailed information on these licenses and free
assistance in license preparation.
Scheduled Cuban Tours
Cuba Gay LGBT Tour - May 7 to May 15, 2011
This Cuba trip is designed for lesbians, gays and all others seeking to learn about gender and sexual equality
in Cuba. Tour participants will meet Cuban activists promoting LGBT rights and join them in rallies and forums
against homophobia. The Cuba trip features museum visits, drag shows, fashion shows, and social and natural history
activities.
A first-ever Rainbow Cuba Tour for LGBT people and their friends coincides with rallies and forums in Havana to
commemorate the International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO). The Federation of Cuba Women and the National Center
for Sexual Education (CENESEX) support this trip and encourage their American counterparts to join them in Havana
this May.
CENESEX has dozens of programs for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders. Its director is the globally
renowned sexologist Dr Mariela Castro Espin, daughter of the Cuban president Raul Castro.
Every May since 2008 Cubans have held weeklong rallies, celebrations and educational events to create awareness
about social problems caused by homophobia. This year will be the largest to date and Rainbow Cuba Tour
participants will connect and collaborate with Cuban activists promoting same-sex unions, and greater
awareness.
