INTBAU Research Trips

The International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism, INTBAU, is an international educational charity with over 4000 members which works under the Patronage of HRH The Prince of Wales to promote traditional architecture, urbanism and crafts.

INTBAU is a world-wide organization dedicated to the support of traditional building, the maintenance of local character and the creation of better places to live. The architecture and urban design workshops bring together practitioners, artisans and students. By education and training in traditional architecture, urbanism and the building crafts, they encourage people to maintain and restore traditional buildings, and to build new buildings and places that contribute to traditional environments and improve the quality of life in cities, towns and villages around the world.

Scheduled Cuban Architecture Trips

2011 Havana Urban Design Charrette - March 21 to March 26, 2011

INTBAU Cuba and INTBAU Scandinavia in partnership with C.E.U. Norway and C.E.U. Cuba will build on their work from 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. International architects and planners will join Cuban experts and local communities for a one week charrette to develop proposals for the regeneration and development of the waterfront area of Centro Habana.

The charrette will fit both educational and professional purposes and will give participants an introduction to the history of Havana’s cultural heritage through close contact with its traditions, architecture and urbanism.

Cuban Architecture Study Tour - March 13 to March 19, 2011

INTBAU Cuba and INTBAU Scandinavia, in partnership with the Academy of Urbanism (UK) and Council for European Urbanism, invite you to join a one week tour of three Cuban cities and UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Havana, Trinidad and Cienfuegos.

This study tour will feature an introduction to the history of the urbanism and architecture of Havana, Trinidad and Cienfuegos. It will involve insights into the regeneration of Old Havana and tours by bus to the two smaller historic cities, Trinidad and Cienfuegos.

Expert guide, Adjunct Professor at the School of Architecture in Havana, Professor Julio Cesar Perez will introduce participants to the history of Cuban architecture, urbanism and culture.
